HVIL Disconnect

  • Open the hood and remove the frunk (seven, 10mm bolts)

  • Locate the factory first responder loop (orange insulation and label)

2018-2020 Model 3 ONLY

  • Pull the larger orange wire out of the orange insulation (three wires in total)

  • Disconnect the 12V Battery negative cable and remove the BMS connector from under the rear seat to open the contactors

  • Snip the single orange first responder loop wire in the center

ALL Model 3/Y

  • Measure 4.75" over from the wiper arm, and 1.25" up from the ridge of the windshield cowl and drill a small pilot hole.

  • Bore the hole out to 12mm using a step-bit

  • Push the switch through the hole and tighten the supplied 17mm nut to lock it in place. Orient as shown in the photos so that the switch moves up and down. Ensure "OFF" is in the UP position so it can't be accidentally triggered!

  • Configure the connectors such that the switch is in the loop. For 2021+ you are just extending the factory loop.

  • Test the switch to confirm the contactors open and close

  • Place your electrical disconnect sticker on the windshield

  • Choose to either leave it in "race mode" with the switch in the loop or "street mode" with the switch loop isolated from the main loop

Rear Tow Strap

  • Remove the mid aero shield from underneath the vehicle (10mm bolts).

  • Remove the center 10mm bolts from the diffuser

  • Mark the center of the rear lower fascia trim. Then mark about 1/3 of the way up. Measure 2.5 inches wide and mark.

  • Using thick duct tape, place multiple layers over the edge of the trim to protect it.

  • Using a rotary tool, dremel, or similar, cut a horizontal hole in the trim.

  • Bore the hole out until it is just thick enough for the strap to slide through, and 2.5 inches wide.

  • Use a flathead screwdriver to help push the strap through the hole. The tag should be facing down, and the side without the retaining loop will be pushed through.

  • Grab the strap from the other side of the diffuser and pull through until the loop is touching the outer end of the diffuser.

  • Now, locate the hole in the rear subframe underneath the rear motor mount.

  • Using the supplied 21mm nut and bolt, push the bolt through the loop in the tow strap and put the nut on the end.

  • Torque the nut until firmly snug.

  • The strap can sit inside of the diffuser snug against the trim. If needed, simply pull out the strap until fully extended (about 5").

Frunk Net

  • Using the existing 10mm bolt in your front trunk, attach the net to the four bolts in the center. Thread the bolts down by hand on top of the net as to not split the netting.

MPP Cooling Party Controller

  • First, Download the MPP Party Manager here

  • The CPC gets spliced near the BMS Connector X098 underneath the rear seat bottom.

  • Remove the rear seat bottom, disconnect the 12V Battery, and disconnect X098 - the contactors will open.

  • Measure approximately 6" away from X098, locate the wires for pins 15 and 16, and cut the wires for your splices.

  • Follow the attached diagram and photos. It is critical that the male pins are spliced in on the connector side, not the wire side.

  • Using the supplied tool, crimp the male pins onto the connector side.

  • Using the supplied tool, crimp the female pins onto the wiring side.

  • Insert the male pins into the female DTM connector using the supplied diagram.

  • Insert the female pins into the male DTM connector using the supplied diagram.

  • Verify connections and tape up your wiring.

  • Attach the power and ground points for the CPC onto the main 12V points coming from the PCS (13mm nuts).

  • Reconnect X098 and the 12V Battery. Verify contactors close and no alerts are present.

  • Place the vehicle into "Creep" mode. You should hear the fan and coolant pumps kick on within ~20 seconds. The CPC is now activated.

  • Place the vehicle into "Hold" or "Roll" mode. Within a minute the CPC should deactivate.

  • Please note that there is Model 3 Challenge specific Firmware to limit the current to a preset value. More info to come.
